Full Guide: Count Dooku, Supertac & Persuader Tank
A top tier Separatist list that isn't double snail Experimental Droids
Introduction
I’ve been playing Separatists ever since 2.6 dropped and rarely has a list lit my fire like this one. I’m always on the lookout for lists that feel like driving a Ferrari. When you get “behind the wheel,” the “car” is incredibly responsive to your desire as the driver. I’m so confident in this list’s abilities I’m willing to say that it could make an undefeated run at a major event with a good pilot. What’s even more interesting is that this list doesn’t utilize the new CIS hotness (Aqua Droids), but it has tools to deal with them. I don’t want to say “counter” them because you can’t really counter 12 wounds behind Armor 2 - it’s always going to take some time to chew through them unless you have some kind of crazy Impact/Critical combination going on.
Please understand, I am not here to say that this is the best CIS list right now. The beauty of the game right now is that there are plenty of viable options and there is no clear “best list” that has the game locked down. As with any list, a lot depends on the pilot, a lot depends on variance, and a lot depends on what you’re facing.
Your mileage may vary.
What sets this list apart from Experimental Droids?
Every time I build a normal Separatist list, I am always asking if I should “just play Experimental Droids” because ExD’s special rules, especially adding dice and bumping movement speed up, are bonkers good. Which units you can take in Experimental Droids is restricted, so you don’t get a lot of flexibility there.
The chief trade-off between Experimental Droids and a non-battleforce CIS list is the inclusion of force users, specifically Count Dooku, who I consider the best Separatist force user right now, and possibly the best in the game. Experimental Droids forgoes access to Force Push and, in exchange, gains powerful special rules for its units. Experimental Droids also gets access to the beastly Prototype Persuader Tank with its Arsenal 3 and Coordinate, giving Experimental Droids better order control than the lion’s share of Separatist lists out there. Non-ExD lists can include more than 2 B2s and Flame Spiders, which are very efficient units, as well as the normal Persuader which can Transport a unit of B2s into battle.

The inclusion of Force Push is where normal Separatist lists tend to shine more brightly than ExD. Force Push, even at 40 points, is still a staple for many competitors, since a single Force Push in the right place can be backbreaking. Force Push is even stronger on Dooku specifically because it’s coupled with Master of the Force 2, ensuring he will get Push and Choke back every round. Force Push also has no variance. When you want it to happen, you’ll get it 100% of the time (unless facing Inquisitors, which are vanishingly rare in this meta).
